My name is Sara Hartshorn. I have been teaching for twelve years. I have taught second grade, half day kindergarten, and I am currently teaching full day kindergarten!
I was born in Pennsylvania. We moved to the Poconos when I was 7 years old. I grew up in a large family. I have a brother and two sisters. I attended elementary school at Pocono Elementary Center where I discovered very early on that I wanted to be a teacher. There I had amazing dedicated elementary teachers. They created fond memories and I had countless positive experiences. I found the love and importance of Education through their guidance and teachings. I knew one day I could do the same. I continued my education, participated in several sports and graduated high school from Pocono Mountain School District. I then attended East Stroudsburg University and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Reading. I was so excited to be hired as a second grade teacher for my first year teaching at Arlington Heights Elementary in the Stroudsburg Area School District! I quickly learned what a superb school it is, and truly enjoy being a part of the Arlington Family. I then taught half day Kindergarten while working very hard in earning my Master’s Degree in Reading Education also from East Stroudsburg University, where I earned my certification as a Reading Specialist. I have a love for reading and know how important reading instruction is for the early grades. I could not wait to have a better background in such a crucial piece to teaching Kindergarten. Then, after a few years Stroudsburg moved into the full day Kindergarten program and so did I. I wanted to expand my education a little more, and with technology on the rise I completed 60 additional credits through Fresno University in Technology within the Classroom.
I live with my amazing husband and two beautiful children. We have a lovable chocolate lab who we all adore, and a terrific cat, who loves to hunt and play. We love hiking, fishing, boating, watching football, gardening, visiting the beach, and having family Sunday dinners. We enjoy being active! My favorite things to do are to spend time with my family and to be with friends. I love to read and run in my spare time.
I look forward to each new school year with new experiences on the horizon. I love Arlington and know your child and family will too!
Let’s learn!
